The Importance of Prayer For A Muslim

Assalamu 'alaikum everyone!

Prayer (Salat) is one of the main obligations that Allah swt has ordained for His servants. We must worship Allah swt through certain known and prescribed sayings and actions starting with Takbeer, and ending with Tasleem. Yet, Takbeer is the Arabic term for the phrase Allahu Akbar and Tasleem means the concluding portion of the prayer, where one recites “Assalaaamu’alaykum wa rahmatu-Allah” once while facing the right, and once while facing the left. Prayer is one of the five fundamental requirements that a Muslim is obligated to perform and is given the highest priority in the Holy Quran. In addition, prayer is also a religious observance that believers are commanded to perform throughout their lives, the times of which have been stipulated. Such as praying five times a day in Morning (Fajr), Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha’. There are many benefits of Prayer described in the Holy Quran. It is enjoined on the Muslims as an obligatory act by Allah swt as can be noted from the following verse of the Holy Quran ;

“Establish regular prayers at the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and the morning prayer”.

(Al-Isra’,78)

Results also prove the benefit of prayer has implied wisdom of human physically and mentally, praying provides a direct connection to Allah, nourishes the body, asserts discipline among Muslims, helps the believer avoid bad deeds, and gets the blessing of life from Allah swt.

That is why we have to strive hard to pray properly. We Muslims have to pray in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), every time we pray, we should focus our attention on Allah swt. We should pray wholeheartedly and sincerely to Allah swt to seek His Pleasure and Forgiveness. We have to remember that Allah swt has given us twenty-four hours a day and He only commands us to perform five times obligatory prayers that take only a total of approximately one hour. We should know the benefit of prayer and how to practice prayer in our life to get a beneficial life. So, for those new to Islam, setting off on a journey of prayer will bring great benefits. The greatest benefit of all is that it will help us to put our lives into perspective, seeing that all things come from Allah swt and that it is to Allah swt that all will return.
