How To Find Inner Peace As a Muslim

Assalamu 'alaikum everyone!

In today's post I will give some recommendations on how to find your inner peace, I hope you enjoy it.

First, we must acknowledge that each and everyone has their own journey to achieve their individual inner peace. Something may work for someone but not for you, and it's totally normal, at the end, everyone has their own experiences and their own story. With this said, I will share with you some tips that will help you Inshaa Allah to find your inner peace.

1. Being sincere in one's prayer

This is something that really improved my life considerably. At first, I would pray like a robot, I wouldn't take a moment to understand what I was reciting during prayer. I would pray in rush as if prayer is not a blessing of Allah. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “If there was a river at your door and he took a bath in it five times a day, would you notice any dirt on him?” They said, “Not a trace of dirt would be left.” The Prophet said, “That is the parable of the five prayers by which Allah removes sins.

Now, all paise to Allah, I take a moment before praying to relax and to be present during prayer. Something that really helped me in my prayer was understanding what I was saying. You should at least know what you're saying at the opening of the prayer, surat Al-Fatiha.

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds
The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
Guide us to the straight path
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

2. Dhikr

Allah (subįø„ānahÅ« wa ta‘ālā) says in the Holy Qur’ān“Truly it is in the remembrance (dhikr) of Allah that hearts find peace.” (13:28)

When you constantly and consciously remember Him, your heart relaxes and becomes attached to Allah swt, the One who controls all affairs. With sincerity, persistence, and time, you reach a stage where nothing compares to the sweetness of remembering Allah, worshipping Allah, and spending time alone with Him, talking with Him, even though He already knows what is on your heart.

This peace is not comparable with anything. As it glows in your heart, nobody can take it from you. Even if you are imprisoned in the darkest dungeons, or have lost your entire family to war, your heart will remain content. It is contentment and happiness that lies in the inner depths of your soul, where no one can enter or disturb it.

3. Reading the Quran regularly

If you start to read the Quran every few time, I assure you that you will feel the peace you are trying to find. Since I started doing that, I feel this calmness, during and after reading the Quran, as if, somehow I do not care about anything else except Allah, as if all my worldly problems banish with just the remembrance of Allah.

"Truly, hearts find peace only in the remembrance of Allah" [13:28]

4. Adopt a gratitude mindset

I know, sometimes this is easier said than done. This means taking note and appreciating the small things as much as the big things in lifewhether it’s being able to have a warm shower, having access to clean water, spending time with loved ones, or having a roof over your head – it all matters. Each night, take a moment to reflect on the blessings Allah (SWT) has given you and thank Him for them.

An important part of being grateful to Allah (swt), is acknowledging and appreciating the people around youThis can be especially hard when you’re mad at them, they irritate you or you don’t particularly like them. But true gratitude doesn’t take into account any of these feelings.

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favour].” [14:7]

In resume:

There are many tips to achieving this tranquil state and they include being consistent and sincere in one’s prayers, dhikr, reading the Quran regularly, frequently seeking forgiveness as well as constantly expressing one’s gratitude. At the end of the day, when we seek to remember our Creator, He will remember us.

“And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.” [50:16]
